GIVE FROM YOUR 401K OR IRA

70 ½ or older? Make a “Tax-Free” Gift Through Your IRA
-
Qualified Charitable Distribution (IRA Rollover)
Note: The SECURE Act increased the MRD (Minimum Required Distribution) age from 70½ to 72. The age for a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), however, still remains at 70½.
Benefits
-
Continue to take regular lifetime withdrawals.
-
Maintain flexibility to change beneficiaries if your family's needs change during your lifetime.
-
Your heirs avoid the potential double taxation on the assets left in your retirement account.
IRA CHARITABLE
ROLLOVER
Use Your Traditional IRA to Make Your Charitable Gifts
The IRA Charitable Rollover provides you with an excellent opportunity to make a gift during your lifetime from an asset that would be subject to multiple levels of taxation if it remained in your taxable estate.
To qualify
-
You must be age 72; or older at the time of gift.
-
Transfers must be made directly from a traditional IRA account by your IRA administrator to New Kingdom Trailriders. Funds that are withdrawn by you and then contributed do NOT qualify. Gifts from 401k, 403b, SEP and other plans do not qualify.
-
Gifts must be outright. Distributions to donor-advised funds or life-income arrangements such as charitable remainder trusts and charitable gift annuities do not qualify.
Benefits — qualified charitable distributions
-
Can total up to $100,000.
-
Are not included in your gross income for federal income tax purposes on your IRS Form 1040 (no charitable deduction is available, however).
-
Count towards your required minimum distribution for the year from your IRA.
Example
-
Suppose Jane wants to make a contribution to New Kingdom Trailriders. She has $500,000 in her IRA and she wants the contribution to be $20,000. She can authorize the administrator of her IRA to transfer $20,000 to New Kingdom Trailriders and $5,000 to herself. The $20,000 distributed to New Kingdom Trailriders will not be subject to federal tax and will be counted toward her annual minimum required distribution.
-
As you plan your required minimum distributions for this year, if you do not need the money the government is requiring you to take, consider using it for a charitable gift using the IRA Charitable Rollover.

-
New Kingdom Trailriders sells your securities and uses the proceeds for our programs.
-
Use our Stock Transfer Form to facilitate the gift.
Benefits
-
You receive an immediate income tax deduction for the fair market value of the securities on the date of transfer (even if you originally paid much less for them).

-
Giving appreciated stock can be more beneficial than giving cash. The "cost" of your gift is often less than the deduction you gain by making it.

Specific Gift Language

Contingent Gift Language
New Kingdom Trailriders or its affiliates can be named as a contingent beneficiary in your will or personal trust if one or more of your specific bequests cannot be fulfilled:

If (insert name) is not living at the time of my demise, I give and devise to New Kingdom Trailriders (Tax ID #36-3344113), located in Sherrard, IL, the sum of $ _______ (or all or a percentage of the residue of my estate) to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific fund or program).

Retirement Plan Beneficiary Language
You may name New Kingdom Trailriders (Tax ID #36-3344113) as a beneficiary of your IRA or other qualified retirement benefits. Donors should consult with their tax advisor regarding the tax benefits of such gifts.

Naming New Kingdom Trailriders as the beneficiary of a qualified retirement plan asset such as a 401(k), 403(b), IRA, Keogh or profit-sharing pension plan will accomplish a charitable goal while realizing significant tax savings. It can be costly to pass such assets on to heirs because of heavy tax consequences. By naming New Kingdom Trailriders as a beneficiary of a retirement plan, the donor maintains complete control over the asset while living, but at the donor's death the plan passes to support New Kingdom Trailriders free of both estate and income taxes.

Making a charitable gift from your retirement plan is easy and should not cost you any attorney fees. Simply request a change-of-beneficiary form from your plan administrator. When you have finished, please return the form to your plan administrator and notify New Kingdom Trailriders.
